"There is no death without sin, nor any chastisement without iniquity;" and that "no diseased person could be healed of his disease till his sins were blotted out." Our Lord, therefore, as usual, appeals to their received opinions, and asserts his high dignity, by first forgiving the sins, and then healing the body of the paralytic. Various conjectures have been formed in order to solve this difficulty; and some, instead of untying, have cut the knot, by pronouncing it an interpolation. The most probable opinion seems to be, that both father and son had two names, the father being also called Abiathar; and this appears almost certain from 2 Samuel 8:17; 1 Chronicles 18:16, where Ahimelech seems evidently termed Abiathar, while Abiathar is called Ahimelech or Abimelech. - Compare 1 Kings 2:26, 2:27. 1 Samuel 22:20-22, 23:6, 23:9; 2 Samuel 8:17, 15:24, 15:29, 15:35, 20:25; 1 Kings 1:7; 2:22, 2:26, 2:27, 4:4 which is not lawfulExodus 29:32, 29:33; Leviticus 24:5-9Reciprocal24:9 - Aaron's; 1 Samuel 21:1 - to Ahimelech; 30:7 - Abiathar; Matthew 12:3 - what; Luke 6:3 - what Verse 27Exodus 23:12; Deuteronomy 5:14; Nehemiah 9:13, 9:14; Isaiah 58:13; Ezekiel 20:12, 20:20; Luke 6:9; John 7:23; 1 Corinthians 3:21, 3:22; 2 Corinthians 4:15; Colossians 2:16ReciprocalGenesis 2:3 - blessed; Exodus 16:23 - rest; 20:11 - General; Mark 3:4 - Is it; Luke 6:5 - General; 13:16 - be loosed Verse 28Mark 3:4; Matthew 12:8; Luke 6:5, 13:15, 13:16; John 5:9-11, 5:17, 9:5-11, 9:14, 9:16; Ephesians 1:22; Revelation 1:10ReciprocalExodus 16:23 - rest; 20:11 - General; Ezekiel 20:12 - I gave
